This week we had two profitable trades and a very close third possible trade with the USDJPY (it just didn’t give us the third bounce needed). During this week I also came across the Strategy Tester feature found in MetaTrader and went about testing a few of the currencies of the HB3 system. All of them showed a loss over the last couple of years and had I known this fact prior to auto-trading this system I wouldn’t have traded it.
One aspect of the Strategy Tester that I do like is the ability to see trades develop. While there have been many that have left me scratching my head I don’t know how “accurate” the Strategy Tester is – especially in comparison to other back-testing software such as Wealth-Lab Developer or AmiBroker.
I’ve also found tick testing a little slow and most of my testing has been done using the “crude method” – so maybe that’s where the problem is at present. Anyway, I’ll continue to back-test using my strategy and will see if there are some inherent issues with the programming side (which wouldn’t be a surprise).
In the end it may come back to manually entering entry points. We’ll see how the rest of the month goes, but I’m certainly not holding my breath!
